BERLIN.- A hat-trick by Germany striker Oliver Neuville helped Bayer Leverkusen crush Hamburg SV 4-1 on Saturday to move four points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich at the top of the German first division.

Former Rangers midfielder Joerg Albertz opened the scoring for Hamburg in the seventh minute but the home side fought back with goals from midfielder Michael Ballack and fellow German international Neuville to lead 2-1 at the interval.

Neuville added two more after the break to complete victory for Leverkusen - the only Bundesliga side undefeated after 14 games in the campaign.

Defending champions Bayern, who surrendered the lead to Leverkusen when they lost 1-0 at Werder Bremen last weekend, managed only a goalless draw at home against lowly Nuremberg.
